Hanwag Boots

Inspired By the Alps

Based in Germany, Hanwag Boots is still producing innovative, alpine-worthy boot and shoe designs for every outdoor interest. Hanwag’s unique double-stitching technique ensures a level of durability and quality that many contemporary shoemakers just can’t achieve. It’s the same technique Hanwag’s founder, Hans Wagner, learned in Munich, Germany in 1918, and few modern manufacturers still employ it.

One of the best-known pair of trekking boots across the industry is the Hanwag Alaska GTX. It’s one of Hanwag’s most popular and important boots. Introduced in 1996, the design hasn’t changed since. With fewer seams and larger pieces of leather, the risk of irritation due to rubbing or uncomfortable pressure points is reduced. The Alaska’s GORE-TEX liner is lightweight and breathable, while still offering the wearer protection from water. The innovative Air-Pulse system improves circulation and comfort with a pumping action in the tongue and cushioning.

Hanwag TrapperFor hunters, the Trapper is a popular choice and the Banks GTX is a favorite among hikers who enjoy exploring everything but the most extreme terrain.

Outfitting Adventurers since 1921

Hanwag is still based in Vierkirchen, Germany in its founding workshop, where Has Wagner first started making shoes in 1921. It was, of course, named after Hans Wagner, whose boots and shoes stood out from the rest due to Hans’ special method of double-stitching. The company first made a name for itself by making ski boots for the 1936 Olympics, and later for a growing American ski market. Later, Hanwag branched into trekking, hiking, and climbing shoes.

To this day, Hanwag boots are still manufactured in Europe and about 30% of products are made in the workshop in Vierkirchen, just outside of Munich, Germany. Handmade for 90 years, Hanwag carries on this tradition even in its satellite factories in neighboring European countries.
